When Vince Harris set out to grow his real estate portfolio, he brought a decade of experience from financial services—including time as a Director at a private placement fund working with commercial asset managers like Brookfield. Having deployed $1B+ of firm capital, he knew how critical good data was for making smart decisions.
But when he turned to residential real estate, he hit a wall. The data was fragmented, expensive, and locked behind restrictive licenses. A handful of legacy providers—what we call "The Cartel"—had been gatekeeping property data for decades.
That's when Vince called his best friend and fellow University of Virginia alum, Justin Winthers. Justin had built a reputation as a world-class technologist, leading engineering teams at Marriott and NRECA. He also had rare domain depth: as a principal at a mortgage broker, he had written underwriting software and managed the marketing of loans to the secondary market. He understood both the technology and the business.
What started as a project to solve a personal investment challenge soon became something much bigger.
